CONCEIT?

Contacts can be found at the end of all posts.

CONCEIT DEFEATS!

The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.  Norman Vincent Peal

I used to be the loudest of them all when it came to proclaiming my good works, but when it came to praising others you could hardly get a word out of me, and that word may come in the form of a whisper.

I had no excuses for my behavior other than I was conceited, and I blamed it all on bad habits I picked up from someone else, and of course, jealousy had nothing to do with it.  It was all about self-righteousness, greed, coupled with the inability to see my true self.

With my chest puffed up, I found it easy to become trapped; as if a spell of I am better than you had swept all over me.  The wool was being pulled over my head, and the whole time I thought I was all that…

We know what we do when we do it, especially when we want to go to the head of the class without earning it.

Well some of us know, but there are always those who think they are the only ones that matter, plus they think this is normal.  Regardless of what any of us think; we should not criticize, judge, put ourselves above others, including stealing their thunder as our own.  What we do will catch up to us.

Judge not, that you be judged.  For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again.  Matthew 1-3  KJV

In other words, you are going to get as much as you give.  Go ahead and mess up, and when asking for mercy explain why you did what you did, or said what you said while having the ability to answer with anything other than, just because.

Hey!  I’m just as weak as the next one, and I have to fight my flesh every day to make it do what is right.  It’s hard to not pat me on the back, even for what I think are good reasons.  But I am more than happy to have the opportunity to give All Glory To God.

That’s what we should be doing anyway Praising God.  Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.  Psalms 150:6

To the conceited that means nothing, all bets are off, because all things revolve around them.  There screaming Praise me, Praise me!

Conceit is an excessively favorable opinion of one’s own ability and importance.  Conceit is bigger and better than anything we can imagine in the eyes of the conceited.  Often the affected are bubbling with pride, full of vanity, and ego as vast as the sky itself.

I can take a lot of that, but the non-stop babbling about exaggerated accomplishments can force me to draw the line and cry out to Jesus.

What the conceited may not know is that God gives us our talents, it’s a man who gives us fame, but the conceit is something we give to ourselves.  An overstated assessment of who we think we are, according to us, by us.

The Bible tells us in Philippians 2:3; Do nothing from rivalry or conceit but in humility count others more significant than yourself.

There is a lot to be said about conceit, many great minds say; conceit is a disease that will give you delusions of grandeur, others are optimistic and say self-confidence trumps conceit then there are those who say the only difference between modesty and conceit is popularity.

Steve Maraboli says; We should Stop giving mean-less praise and start giving meaningful action.

As for me, I am going to follow the letter of the law as it is written; Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not you’re own lips.  Proverbs 29:2

It’s Something to Think About!

Thank you, Lord, and it is in Jesus’s name that we pray.  Amen!

DID YOU KNOW? #29

DID YOU KNOW? #29

Did you know the world will always adjust to consistency?  Change is the problem, and if we are not open to change we will fail?   We cannot control the natural or spontaneous changes in life, so if we continue to try to control things that are out of our hands we will only create sorrow.

Let things flow as they were designed to.

Did you know trust is built on consistency but did you know it’s contrary to life and nature?

Most of us want to live as long as possible, so it’s important to know that we can’t replace anyone, only succeed them.

The truth is the only completely consistent thing is dead people.

Did you know when we look at the people who are successful most are not that motivated, it’s just the fact that they are consistent, and that gets the job done.

Did you know the secret of longevity is to not look back, and did you know another secret to longevity is to read all you can, especially the ingredients in the foods you buy?

Always look for something new, live life as if it is an adventure, and know that longevity coupled with stupidity is living a worthless life?

Did you know we should never let the bait of pleasure overtake us?  There may be hooks hidden where we can’t see them.  And did you know; For every man there exists a bait he will not be able to resist swallowing?

Did you know beauty and money is just the right bait to start in the wrong direction?

You may know our mental attitude is usually the cause of what determines success or failure, and continuous effort, not strength or intelligence is the key to unlocking our potential?  But did you know coming together is a beginning; keeping it together is progress; and working together is success?

Did you know fear is a disease that often eats away at logic, but experience and knowledge of the Lord is the medicine associated with the science of logic and reason?

Just for the record, did you know The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding?  Proverbs 9:10

It’s Something to Think About!

Thank you Lord for all you do, and it is in Jesus name that we pray.  Amen!

A THUMBS UP PROJECT!

The name A Thumbs up Project represents the go ahead for me.  Universally, thumbs up are widely recognized as a sign of approval.

Upon discovering what I believe is God’s purpose for saving my life from Cancer, and for actually following through on what I believe is the purpose of my being.  I believe my mission has been approved and I have all the ammunition I need to succeed; Experience, while giving all The Glory to God.

A Thumbs up Project was created in 2013 to share the survivors point of view on the subject of Breast Cancer, by sharing knowledge in a language most can understand; Everyday English, coupled with firsthand knowledge gleaned from past experiences.

Also, A Thumbs up Project supports the fight to free those imprisoned in the Sex Trade Industries, regardless of gender.  God willing, the bottom line will lead to the birth of The Norvie L. Cherry Foundation for the Eradication of Human Trafficking.

Discovering the gift to write late in life has given me an amazing opportunity to increase Breast Cancer Awareness, through Medical Terms and Short Stories and penning the book I Survived 60 Years to Get Cancer, Then Kill It./ The Norvie L. Cherry Story.

While writing the book I realized how much information I held concerning prostitution, increasing my desire to share what I know about the sex trade.  Hence; The Norvie L. Cherry Foundation for the Eradication of Human Trafficking was born, in the hopes that the book will finance both projects.

FYI: On Friday March 25, 2016 I will be co-hosting on the radio, starting at 6a for a couple of hours.  WRFG 89.3 FM Atlanta Georgia.  And don’t forget the Evening Spring Fling on April 24, 2016, 6p-12a at Jazzy J’s Banquet Hall 5234 Old National Highway, Atlanta Ga. 30349 (Old National and Godby Rd. behind the Chevron gas station)

GET THE FACTS!

Contact information can be found at the bottom of each post.

Get The Facts!

It is my belief that what’s in our head will cause us to carry out the deeds that will dictate our success, or failures, stemming from decisions based strictly on what we believe.

Now don’t get it twisted, what we believe and what some think they know, (an educated guess) is completely different from a Know it All; a fool who knows everything, right or wrong.  And just because we believe in something don’t make us a fool, that is unless we are given the facts and choose to ignore them.

It doesn’t take a Rocket Scientist to help us to choose wisely in our endeavors to get the Facts long before we express our personal opinions; a little common sense will work just fine.  And by seeking and attaining the correct information, we will soon discover facts speak for themselves, even as some try to distort them.

Like it or not everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but facts are facts, not opinions, and they will not disappear on account of our likes or dislikes.  As a matter of fact, omitting or distorting facts can create an astonishing amount of pure ignorance, leaving us completely in the dark and wondering why.  Most times this occur when we lean to our own understanding.

This is a big wide world and no one can know all the truths, but you can choose to, Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding.  Proverbs 3:5

I now understand that when it comes down to the real facts, which is often discovered through research and hard work, to shut up and listen; this way we may learn the fact that, Facts are to the mind what food is to the body.

I wish I had known the real facts, about the importance of facts, when I was trying to change the facts, in order to make things go my way.  (Lying, etc.)

I now realize we must take things as we find them instead of trying to change them into what the are not, and all the wishing in the world cannot change the fact that distortion is just that, distortion.

Thank God there are some who have the ability to seek only the facts, and they are the ones more likely to be successful; putting to waste those who distort the truth in order to achieve their own desires.

FYI: What goes around comes around, and It’s Something to Think About!

And as always, it is in Jesus name that we pray.  Thank you, Lord, Amen!

IT’S JUST MY OPINION!

Contact information can be found at the end of each post.

STARING DEATH IN THE FACE?

We use a number of similar phrases to express our thoughts in certain situations; fore instance: The problem was staring him right in the face, but he couldn’t see it for looking, or He was staring right through me. Those types of statements use to set off a few trigger points I am not to proud of, especially; SO YOU STARED DEATH IN THE FACE?

In 2008 I was diagnosed with 3rd Stage Breast Cancer, after my recovery I found more often than not, the ones who wanted to compliment me on Surviving the Journey, had a couple of things to say and these replies were not something I wanted to hear.

When I say I am cancer free, the next thing out of the mouths of some listeners was and still is: “So you’re in remission?”

The medical term for a disease in remission is: A temporary or permanent decrease of the subsidence that manifested the disease.  In other words; You still have the disease, the cause has only slowed down, or stopped from growing.

Cancer Free means: a life threatening disease has been eradicated (abolished completely) from the body, and is no longer a threat.

In medical survivor years: Cancer Free is to be without the disease for 5 or more years, and there is an 80 percent chance it will not reappear.

The classic conversation starter when someone has survived a dire situation is; So you stared death in the face, and lived to tell about it.

Some popular quotes are a little over the top for me.  The only death I stared in the face before and after cancer was when I stared at someone else’s dead body; my doctors may have “stared death in the face.”  I don’t know what death look like unless you are already dead, and that’s too much.

What I do know is I dealt with cancer by putting all my Trust in God so that he could delivered me!  I stared at Jesus Christ in my heart and asked for a cure.

How could staring at death help me or anyone?  Dead is Dead, something we do not survive, or overcome in the physical world.  If there is a way to stare death in the face, it must be a Blessing; The one that grants Everlasting Life through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  To be born again.

Are we dreaming these things up. You cannot cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.  How can we stare at our death and still be alive?  Any ideas, I bet ya Satan have some, and wouldn’t we all be gods if we could stare death down?

This is an attempt to share what I leaned wasting my time fighting death, staring death in the face, worrying about dying, etc…  I put that on me, God’s plan is for me to live.  It is what it is .  We all have a life to live, deal with death at its appointed time.  Refuse to be preoccupied with what  death looks like, when will it come, including talking about death, claiming it’s just a figure of speech.  Let it Go!

We may think we can beat the odds by shear determination, that may help, but if we take the sure way, which is through Faith; focusing on Jesus Christ, we may only see the positives in our lives, instead of deadly overtones.

What we need to stare at is The Living Jesus has already stared down death on the cross so that we might live and know the truth.

For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything… Ecclesiastes 9:5   KJV

Agree or not, It’s Just My Opinion, and It’s Something To Think About!    Think, that’s the whole point of all my Blogs.

Thank you, Lord, for granting me life although, for only a little while, I must learn to live for all it’s worth, giving all the Glory to God.  Amen

FRIEND, FOE OR AN ACQUAINTANCE?

A note from the Author: All contact pages can be found at the end of each post.

Friend, Foe or an Acquaintance.  All I’m asking is what kind of friend are you?

Are you the kind of friend that keep all your joy to yourself, but eager to share your pain?  Are you the kind of friend that never gives.  Are you a Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing?  A taker, just to keep something from someone else?  Are you the type of friend that think everyone owes you something?  Are you an enemy, disguised as a friend?

If so, you are not a very good friend or one I would call a friend.  An acquaintance is more like it.

Don’t mistake acquaintances for friends; for they have yet to prove themselves by putting their words into action, and standing by your side.  Most know truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget.

One of the best things we can do for us is to make a friend out of ourselves; being without friends can be lonely and frustratingSo making friends with yourself is one sure way to provide a resource for self-care and inner peace.

Recently a friend was complaining about my not answering or returning their phone calls.  Often they will call back to back hoping I will eventually pick up.  Sometimes I wonder if people think I walk around the house all day carrying my phone holstered to my hip as if it was a gun.

I tried to explain that repeatedly calling me was a waste of time, and the reason for my not answering their calls is all in their head.  I can list an array of why’s; I don’t want too, in the bathroom, phone off, most times I don’t know where it is and don’t care, and you can forget about me answering if I’ m writing.

My friend went on to tell me how they know I know when they are calling because I can see the name on my Caller ID.  True that, but I may not see it for days, and most times when they do call, it is seldom that they leave a message.  To me, no message means whoever called had nothing to say, so I just go on as usual.

As my friend pressed, I soon found myself searching for the real reasons why we were having this conversation.

The more I thought about the complaints, the more I wondered What Kind of Friend are they?  This conversation opened a can of worms.  I’d like to think that I ‘m the type of friend that not only share my pain, I share mostly my joy.

Where is this person when the good times are rocking and rolling?  The only thing shared with me are the problems; It seems as if the only reason we are friends is so they can batter me with their personal demons, and that can be draining.  Everybody receives blessings from somewhere, sometimes.  Their still breathing.

As I continued my evaluation of why I don’t answer, at times, it hit me like a ton of bricks.  When I do, it’s drama; 3D drama, full of twists and turns that may never be resolved.  Perhaps worthy of a good book in years to come, but for now it’s just too much.  The gossip, do this or do that, coupled with can I have or borrow.  All the time it’s something.

I now know those phone calls are meant to be a distraction to keep me from what I should be doing, all to the Glory of God, with purpose, whether my friend realizes it or not.  Constantly remarking, “You always call me at the wrong time, I told you I work from such-to-such,” but that goes UN-heard.

It’s a Diversion, a trick used by Satan and his cohorts to turn our attention away from Productive Purpose… Sometimes we just have to move on to a Higher Calling…

Beware of untested friends; Think Outside of the Box!  Pay attention to all of your surroundings, especially if it seems as if you are the only friend in the friendshipIn that case, your friend may be your foe, and they know when your guard is down because you trust them.

There’s a lot to the saying, Keep your friends close, but your enmity’s closer.  Certainty It’s Something to Think About!  And some people are only in your life for a season, anyway.

I like to think I live a peaceful life outside of drama.  My home is my sanctuary, except for the occasional family mishap, and the ongoing trials of being alive; other than that I have no real issues.  So most times when my peace is disturbed, it has nothing to do with my doings or my life.  But problems coming from the same source over and over can be challenging.

I have a listening ear, but somethings will have to change, if not I am not listening anymore.  I am not anyone’s exclusive sounding board, as a matter of fact, I could be a better friend if we shared some of the same values; like not talking through everything I have to say; cutting me off at every turn just to convey your dark side.

When this friend, I now call an acquaintance, finished telling me about all the qualities I didn’t possess.  I had to explain my friendship has to be earned, not used, and that it is an important ingredient in the recipe called life, not a one-sided love affair only when something is needed of me.

I had to express, with all the flaws that were pointed out and made me an undesirable friend, the fact that; True friendships are not one-sided, and Love is understanding, coupled with the ability of friends to close their eyes and ears our human flawsI asked if anyone ever mention in order to have a friend we must be a friend?

I have spent a lifetime searching for peace, and I finally found it in Jesus Christ, a comforting friend.  The type of friend we all should be to one another.  Causing me to take some of the blame, and wanting to be a better friend.

What Kind Of Friend Are You?  It’s Something To think About!

Thank you, Lord for all you do, and What A Friend you gave us in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior…  Amen!
