One of the hardest things I ever had to do was to tell on myself.
I know by now most of you are aware of the fact that I have written a book called, I Survived 60 Years to Get Cancer, Then Kill It./ The Norvie L. Cherry Story. It took 6 years to write, including the 3 years I literally cried trying to get through it.
Social media is a tough place… Especially when putting your personal business out there for the world to judge.
Because of Shame, I found it hard to change, because I knew I would have to expose my darkest secrets. The good news is, I learned if I shared those secrets, shame couldn’t survive, although remembered. Plus, we seem to judge ourselves harder than what we perceived others to do.
We are so vain, we seldom realize most are too busy with their own issues to concern themselves with what others are doing. But, I believe there are stories out there that are meant to be told for the benefit of others; A story like mine; you be the judge. I’m emotionally drained, although I’m better off, as I pray you will be too after reading it.
I had involved myself in so many ungodly transactions I had no idea I was in as much danger as I was. I believe God saved my life so that I might tell this story of a life I almost gave away, while claiming “I am just doing me.”
If it had not been for cancer, perhaps I would have never fulfilled my purpose for being born; as it is written in Jeremiah 1:5 The Amplified Bible
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you (and approved of you as my chosen instrument), And before you were born I consecrated you (to Myself as My own); I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.
Without having the knowledge of Jesus Christ, I would have been just another life wasted, instead I was given a number of chances; perhaps it was my home training, my spirit or morals? Whatever it was, I soon realized in order to help save my life when diagnosed with 3rd Stage Breast Cancer, I had to bear my soul, and tell the world a story I wanted to keep a secret.
I Survived 60 Years to Get Cancer, Then Kill It. / The Norvie l. Cherry Story is written in two parts. I thought I was to only tell about the cancer and how God saved my life, not realizing why, until I realized I had to tell the whole story, something I was unwilling to do at the onset.
The first part is about a lifestyle full of pimps, murders, whores, thieves, rapist, you name it, they are all there and the parts I played.
It all started by age 15 when I snuck out of the house and went to a party in Chicago. At age 18, I was called out in Port Huron, Michigan as a Pimp. By the time I turned 22 years old, I had a little college; Central State in Ohio. I had graduated from The Pittsburgh Barber School in Pennsylvania, and was the proud owner of Cherry’s Barbershop and Shoeshine Parlor, coupled with managing my Aunts Bar, The Black Olive.
This book is very candid, I wrote it as if you are sitting in front of me and we are having a conversation.
The second part of I Survived 60 Years To Get Cancer, Then Kill It. / The Norvie L. Cherry Story addresses Cancer. I tell it like it is.
I am a Storyteller; I don’t do statistics, clinical reports, or test result. I tell what most won’t; all the hard parts. How does it feel to take Chemo, lost of hair, taste buds, everything you don’t want to know, and still not lead you into what may sound like a Doctors Convention full of gloom and doom.
Because I am a storyteller, you will get a real feel from a real life in action. It is full of jaw dropping situations that would have left most dead; and I haven’t gotten to the Cancer part yet.
