Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.   Psalm 119:37  (NIV)

I have never been a fan of “one size fits all, and I’m not really clear on that popular saying “what doesn’t  kill you make you stronger.”

I know what is for you is for you, and I know people who have come close to death, and the situation didn’t  make them any stronger.  Actually, one lost ground, and is almost as good as dead, which has nothing to do with their health.  It has everything to do with their attitude, and the effect it has on others.

This person is in a nursing home, and she may never be released because of a personal matter.  She doesn’t like her nurses; which by the way have only been trying to take care of her.  They say she has the Devil in her; I think all of us have a little devil in us, but this is crazy.

I don’t get it; this woman has suffered a massive trauma to her head, and her doctors were at a loss wondering how she survived it all.  All of her recent brain scans show she should be well enough to go home.  But, her actions, and the way she uses her body say otherwise.  The sad part is, she is faking how far she has come with physical therapy.  For some reason, she refuses to show any signs of progress.

I believe it’s the old “Why Me,” syndrome, driving her into a depression, coupled with hate instead of Faith.  I tried to explain, that type of thinking has its disadvantages; meaning, she may self-destruct faster than a speeding bullet, if she’s not careful.

The near death experience that didn’t kill her didn’t make her stronger either.  As a matter of fact, I think it took something away called Common Sense.  After all, it was a head injury???

I am not trying to be funny, alienate myself or be insensitive; but I believe some of us think if we hold on to something long enough it will make us appear stronger, even if it’s not good for us; as my friend thinks in her situation.  She could have been out of the hospital long ago, instead, she’s playing an unhealthy game of wills.  I bet Satan had something to do with the making of that game.

When I asked why she is so determined to have her way, there was no real answer.   “I don’t like the way they look at me, and they’re always trying to tell me what to do.”   That answer didn’t work for me, as a matter of fact, I thought it was stupid.  It’s one thing to have a potentially life-threatening health problem, but it’s quite another to pretend you are not progressing.  That’s the part I’m concerned about.

I noticed when the nurses are there to check her blood pressure, brush her teeth, whatever; all of a sudden she can no longer articulate.  Slurring words, and twisting her body in unnatural ways, only because a nurse walked into the room?   I could hardly believe it.  When it’s just us, her speaking skills are near normal, and yes she can brush her own teeth.

She is so hateful with the help, she won’t even help herself, wrongly thinking it hurts them more than it does her.  In this case, what tried to kill her did not make her stronger, what it made is something I will never understand.  Self-destruction.

Sometimes it’s best to just let things go; Somethings Are Just Not Worth It.

For the ones who have survived close calls, and that situation made you stronger, it’s time to take it a step further.  Once we survive our traumas, we can’t hang on to what happened, allowing that part of our past to consume us.  Let it go, it’s over, and I didn’t say anything about forgetting all about it.  This is the perfect opportunity to begin the life of an overcomer, and move on.

Life wasn’t meant for us to be stuck in a situation we have already Survived.  I told you before, “The only difference between a rut and the grave are the dimensions.”  Get over it or it will get all over you, causing all you suffered to be in vain.

Instead of hanging on to the bad and sad, take that knowledge, and that new opportunity to live, only this time live for the betterment of others.  Share your story, and let the world know through Jesus Christ, they can live again too.  That’s why your life was saved, to be a Living Witness with a positive message.

I believe whatever it is that didn’t kill us, may make us stronger, only if we let go of the sorrow and learn to encourage others to do the same.  Other than that, what is life if there is no quality in living?

Dear Lord gives us the present of mind to realize if you saved us from the grave it was for a reason.  A reason to rejoice and give Testimony, not to complain, and cry “What did I do to deserve this?”

Go out and tell the world what Jesus did for you when Satan tried to take your life.

It is in Jesus name that we pray.  Amen
