Order marches with weighty and measured strides. But the disorder is always in a hurry. Napoleon Bonaparte
Like it or not there are steps to take in every aspect of life, rules to be followed, and maintaining “Order in the House,” (Control) is absolute.
I was sitting around some mothers the other day while they were discussing children, the Bible, and education. One mother was discussing the importance of having Jesus Christ in the lives of all children.
They talked about how Jesus called upon mothers to; Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
They also discussed how to get respect from a child as a parent. What they didn’t talk about was a mutual respect; And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4
There was this one mother who felt her children were totally out of control when it came to respecting her. She said her children owed her everything, and she should be placed above all the rest, especially since her children were in a better monetary position than she. She said, “After all I did for them, giving birth, and losing my life to raising them, how ungrateful can they be?”
Somehow, that mother failed to realize it was her responsibility, not theirs, she gave birth. (A wanted pregnancy or not.) Their obligation is to their own children, and anything she gets outside of respect and love is a gift. She often reminds her children; “I brought you into this world and I will take you out.”
If that’s motherly love, I’m confused. What happened? At least she could have taught them one of the Commandments that’s in her favor; Honor thy father and mother, so that your days will be long on this earth. Exodus 20:12
Children: He that curse his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death. Exodus 21:17
Apparently, this mother or her mother had never read, heard or taught their children 1st Timothy 5:8; But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. (Non-belief in any God.)
Then there was the mother who entered the conversation that felt discipline was the answer to all of their problems, and if that failed they were at their wit’s end. Their problem solving was more like a beating than a learning process. Implying the only way to gain control is through stiff corporate punishment.
Someone need to explain to this particular mother that the bible verses pertaining to disciplining a child, had nothing to do with beating said child to the point of no return. The other mothers also pipe in with their disapproval her methods. One claimed, “Children can do no wrong, that’s why they are children.” I guess she forgot about Proverbs 22:6. You know, “train up a child.”
The bible tells us in Proverbs 29:15, and in verse 17: The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bring his mother to shame. vs:17 Correct thy son, and he shall give delight unto thy soul.
The Bible tells us in Hebrews 13:17; Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. (Unhappiness)
Listening to these mothers had me considering my place in the well-being of children. You see, I never laid down and gave birth to anything. Because of that, some of the mothers felt since I never had children, I had no say so in the matters of parental guidance. l chose to disagree because the bible also say in Isaiah 54:1;
Sing, O barren, thou that did not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that did not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the Lord. Vs. 2; Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes.
Nothing in that verse lets me off the hook when it comes to someone else, babies. And, when it was stated with a forcefulness, that I should stay out of the conversation because not only did I not have children, I also had no husband. What do they know?
I have Jesus Christ, including some with no husband, but children; if they were willing to say “I do, to His Will.”
For thy maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name, and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. Isaiah 54:5
Those mothers needed to understand, especially about the things concerning their children; it’s not what we say or do, it’s how we say or do it, is what matters. We are only as good as our teachers, something I totally believe in, but in order to be better, we have to look further than them.
Did you know, that disciplining your child by beating them within an inch of their lives is not exactly what the bible is talking about?
There is a lot to be said about, “spare the rod and spoil the child.” “It’s Something to Think About” when handling your business properly, including the knowledge of the fact that hitting is not always the answer. Try listening before punching. Although I have to admit, the views of today’s society are not always in agreement with what the bible is teaching us, still, it’s my choice to follow the rules that lie within, regardless of Government interferences.
This essay is my opinion; so perhaps you should do you, and don’t you worry about me touching anyone’s children. Those mothers were right, I am no one’s mother, but I care, and according to the Bible I am also responsible when it comes to our young. So be it!
Thank you, Lord, for helping us to understand your words. (Discern) In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
