I USED TO BE A BAD GIRL.

I use to be a “Bad Girl,”  and I am still rough around the edges; I kinda like that about me, but that’s not the issue for this post.

When I use to be a “bad girl,” my life was saved in order for me to write a book, not just any old ordinary book; the kind that strips you naked; The Truth, however embarrassing.

I have a story to share, but in order for the truth to come to the forefront I had to make peace with me, and what God’s Will was for my life.  I had to forgive me for the things I had done, and still, lay my secrets out for the world to scrutinize.

This is an excerpt from my tell-all book, I Survived 60 Years to Get Cancer, Then Kill It./The Norvie L. Cherry Story.

To God Be The Glory.

An Introduction to the Times:

I survived the time the gun was placed on the side of my head, because a pimp thought it was impressive for all to see as an exhibit of manhood. Bullets were whizzing pass my head while I was driving the getaway car during an attempted robbery, not aware of the fact that robbery was the motive for my outing. I was waiting behind the wheel of my mother’s car when the shooting started. I know that sounds suspicious, but I was sixteen years old and I had crept out of the house. This was not a good move, as I would find out the hard way. Thank God I survived, but I didn’t thank Him at the time.

A few years later I was riding my motorcycle and a car came so close that it ripped the left side of my pant leg off. I had no idea why this driver was trying to run me off the road, but now I know it was the Devil. I was aware of some roadwork that was being completed and there was a gap running across the street two feet wide and a few feet deep. I led the motorist there and jumped the curb at a high rate of speed. He tore that car up and the road crew was at a loss, wondering what all the commotion was about, until I rode back around the corner and flipped him the finger. That day something helped me, but I couldn’t connect with it. Telling this story later on in life I remembered I cried out to Jesus.

I was so careless that my head was almost crushed under the right front tire of a 1976 Cutlass Oldsmobile. The tire caught a bit of my hair and pulled it out by the roots. Ouch! The gear shift chain was broken, so I had to go under the car and turn the shift by hand, and then get out alive. I know, but the problem was fixed the next day.

NO WEAPONS OR MORE THAN WE CAN BEAR?

Some of us have our own personal bible verses we like to use in order to enhance our purpose.  Sometimes we use these verses to prove a point or make an example out of something, or someone.  I have favorites and have been known for using them, especially; “No weapons formed against me shall prosper.”  And, “He will never put more on me than I can bear.”

Often we use these quotes improperly, mainly because we think all we have to do is claim them and sometimes change a word or two to fit our specific agendas.  There are rules, so in order to receive the blessings from our favorites or any other scripture, we have to understand the content and obey the rules.

To learn more go to a Bible Believing, Bible Teaching Church.

“But no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall show to be in the wrong.  This (peace, righteousness, security, triumph over opposition) is the heritage of the servants of the Lord (those in whom the ideal Servant of the Lord is reproduced): this is the righteousness or the vindication which they obtain from Me…this is that which I impart to them as their justification), says the Lord.”   Isaiah 54:17

In other words, do as he say and he will come to your rescue when wronged, sometimes placing the enemy at your feet.  What are you going to do when the enemy is down?   FYI: This is not the time to kick him, in order to receive blessings we must forgive.

“For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), (no matter how it comes or where it leads) has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man (that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to the human experience, and such as man can bear).”   1st Corinthians 10:13

In other words, with Jesus Christ, there is nothing out there we can’t handle if it is a part of being human.  And nothing he can’t handle that is not.  (Satan)

“But God is faithful (to His Word and to His compassionate nature), and He (can be trusted) not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will (always) also provide the way out (the means of escape to a landing-place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently.”  (Wait on the Lord for your way out.)  The continuation of 1st Corinthians 10:13   AMP

He promised no matter how hard the struggle if under his guidance we will be able to overcome anything.

It’s all true, and “Something to Think About,”  if you are a person of Faith, and one who believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

“The Bible is one of the greatest blessings bestowed by God on the children of men.  It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of its matter.  It is all pure.”  James Lock

We love you Lord and our praises to you shall always be in our mouths.  Amen

A GIFT FROM THE HEAVENS!

Even if you never believe there is a Jesus Christ, and even if you never believe he is still around today, no matter what you believe or say, I can’t and never will understand why some would hate the doctrine?  (A policy taught.)  In my opinion, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” makes sense; common sense.

Although some would say,  “Who’s to say what common sense is or is not?”  Especially when drinking, or considering ourselves to be self-taught scholars.  Perhaps a Guru of some sort blowing smoke, including the possibility of sheer ignorance.

We know what we do, and we know right from wrong, so perhaps it doesn’t matter how hard we try to convince ourselves,  ” I’m just being me;”   In most cases it’s just a lie we tell, with our shady selves.

When our actions are unbecoming, we try to keep it from others and not feel guilty about the decision. Coupled with the “Everybody is stupid but me”; besides  “It ain’t nobodies business, no ways.”  Something I have heard most of my life.

We are so vain that when we give ourselves that underserved, self-serving pat on the back, we empower the Devil.  That type of attitude is right up his alley.  Hence, one of the purposes of this website.  I fell into the “it’s all about me,” trap.  Right up until I found out it wasn’t.  That one hurt.

If I was the worst I could ever be, I still would want what Jesus Christ teaches for me, my family, friends, O.K. and my foe’s.  Even if I was the biggest heathen on Earth, I can find plenty of reasons to be all I can be.  What good is a life without the quality it can offer?  And what is that without the Love of our Savior Jesus Christ?

What are our chances?  Find out in John 15:5   And if you don’t want to pick up the Bible, know this;  “Even if you fall on your face, you’re still going forward.”  Victor Kiam

In the meantime, I am not planning on giving anyone Hell, nor am I expecting to receive any.  Expecting trouble is a waste of time, and it’s counter-productive, but it will happen and it must be addressed because of the ramifications; if problems are left to themselves who knows what may be lying in wait?  Do Something!

FYI: I didn’t address my breast issues, and the ramifications of not going to the doctor developed into 3rd stage Breast Cancer.  My attitude was: “This could never happen to me,” but it did.

Losing precious time is a gift from the Devil, as he attempts to suck the very life out of us, which is based on time spent being idle or living a non-productive life.  Wasting our time keeping us grounded in selfishness, which is designed to, and will kill us “sooner than later.”

Looking back at all the mess is not advantageous unless we are willing to change.  If so, look forward, while trying to amend some of the things we did that were unconventional from the start.  Go against the grain; the “new norm” is to be cunning.  Often overlooking there is a price if we continue in unbecoming ways.  It only takes one bad move for us to stumble going forward or fall into an unexpected sinkhole called Hell.

Oh, well!  It’s the truth, and it is what it is: It’s not hard to be fair, it’s an unwillingness to do it.  Don’t get mad at me, let’s just keep it real.  It’s a “dog eat dog, world”  WITHOUT JESUS CHRIST; Please excuse me for hollering.

I have a good understanding of what God wants from me because I lived through what he didn’t want for me.  I understand my purpose is to pass on what I have learned from that life, and the wake of call was Breast CancerDid you know I smoked cigarettes for 45 years?  Go figure.

I am a Living Witness, who received an education at a price, a price you don’t want to pay.  And I physically wear the scars.

When your life is involved more than a few things come into focusOne of the most important ones for me was I finally understood; Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.  Proverbs 4:7

Knowing that we have to live in the carnal world; which we all will have to survive until death, is a part of life.  When we experience Jesus Christ, some of us realize it’s A Gift from The Heavens, not the Gates of Hell.

DID YOU KNOW? # 19

Did you know, one of the most authentic things about us is our capacity to create?  Creativity allows us to make mistakes through trial and error; at lease until we can come up with a masterpiece or run out of options.  And art is knowing which piece of work is worth keeping.  Therefore, the more we know, no matter the obstacles, the grander the glory is in overcoming it?  To God be The Glory!

Did you know endurance is the name of the game?  Going through not only the process of setbacks but having the ability to bear the weight in the midst of troubles, all the while showing others the correct way to go.  Accomplishing that is a true test of leadership.

“Practice is the hardest part of learning, and training is the essence of transformation.”  Ann Voskamp  So, if you desire perfection you will have to be constantly transformed, and that means leaving the door open for change.

Just in case some may have forgotten, “when you’re in love you can’t fall asleep because the reality is finally better than your dreams?”  And love is a condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.”  So when someone else is more important than you, consider yourself to be in, or perhaps you have found Love.

Did you know, the only way out of a labyrinth; a complicated maze of suffering and misguided directions, is to forgive?  And only the strongest among us with faith in Jesus Christ can endure suffering, and at the same time multitask by creating a massive personality for forgiveness along the way.  Often they wear the scars of sacrifice.

Thank you, Lord, for wisdom, and it’s in Jesus name we pray.  Amen!

IT’S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE “BENJAMIN’S.”

Greed: An excessive or rapacious (predatory) desire, especially for wealth or possessions.  I always wanted my wealth in cash.  Now I know it’s not all about the “Benjamin’s” (money); It’s about the “Ripple Effects.”

The unexpected twist turns, and hurt on levels so deep they rival Mt. St. Helen’s eruption.  (A volcano in Washington State.)  Greed is a “Never-ending Story” of wants; a hunger of never being satisfied, exhausting ourselves through stupidity in order to gain more.

Taking chances, forsaking family, friends and God, all for the sake of something we will never get enough of.  Greed, one of the 7 “deadly sin,” and it creates insatiable desires, purposely designed to keep us hungry for more.  Now, when it comes to greed the “ole folks” want to know,  “If we had everything, where would we put it?”   A hint that more problems are waiting in the wings, preparing to help us create our own personal Hell.

Trapped because of objects.  Physical things that have and can suck us up into a life that has seduced us like powerful drugs, including making the  “Scrooges”  of today look like a bunch of girl scouts overnight.  All because that’s how fast the world is evolving with all this new Technology.  “I want one,” is coming out of more than the “mouths of babes.”

We are so greedy we are losing our capacity to work with each other.  Did you know, “Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others.  Unsuccessful people are always asking, “What’s in it for me?”

Pertaining to that last sentence, I have uttered those greedy words on more than one occasion; you?

Recently a selfish act sent me to my knees in tears.  It had nothing to do with inheritances, for that was given.  So, there was no need for theft, there was no pushing to give up control.  Greed was the culprit of this selfish and cruel act; an act that zapped the Life out of someone I loved.

An act so greedy that the greedy one never realized they didn’t need to take anything, it was already given to them.

A very old woman called “Sweetie,” who was of sound mind until she made the decision to hand over control of her assets to a loved one.  Power of Attorney papers was filed on her behalf, and the family members had no prior knowledge of this 92-year-old mother’s decision to relinquish control over her life.  It was all about Love, and she thought it would make it easier for her family to care for her.

For the relative who gained control over her finances, it was all about Greed.  Not about a mother well up in age, far above the age most live.  Being of sound mind, but as far as mobility was concerned there was a problem with her legs.

After a few months of not being able to reach her, I made some decisions that paid off.  While complaining in a text message to one of her family members, I informed them that I was having too many problems trying to contact her and that I was concerned enough to seek professional answers about her well-being.

Well, needless to say, after that threat I received a call and a phone number.  Finally, when I was able to talk with this old woman, she told me the phone she was given is so complicated she had no idea of how to call out, and I was the only one who ever called her on it.

Now, there is nothing wrong with the facility where she is housed.  The problem is everything was given in hopes of a more stress-free and comfortable life, all because she felt as if the end was near.  Instead, nothing was to be shared with her to the point that when she asked for a few dollars to buy Christmas presents, she was told she didn’t need to spend money on anything, any more in life.

When she gave up control of her assets, this mother was abandoned in a nursing home with only the necessities.  What about the quality of one’s life is what I wanted to know.  I felt as if they threw her away.

A victim of  “The Ripple Effects,”  that was created by Greed, and it trickled straight down to the low down.  How low can we go?  To me, its seems as if some will go as far as it takes.  All the way to Hell in some cases.

To make matters worse, the family member with all the control is an old man long past his prime and is financially stable.  It was  “All About the Benjamin’s.”  For some, this story is mild when compared to some of the other horrors.  Kidnappings, rape, murder, all committed in the name of greed.

Nor cheats (swindlers and thieves), nor greedy graspers, nor drunkards, nor loudmouthed revelers and slanders, nor extortioners and robbers, will inherit or have any share in the Kingdom of God.  1st Corinthians 6:10  (AMP)

I often wonder if anyone ever notices most people are not in the lease shocked by greed, theft or deceit.  Are we losing touch with human emotions for physical satisfaction?   “It’s Something to Think About.”

Lord, we pray you take the bitter taste of greed out of our lives and the future of those to come.  In Jesus name, we pray.  Amen

THE NORVIE L. CHERRY, BOOK COVER STORY!

BACK COVER: There is no doubt about it: Norvie L.Cherry, is one tough lady.  Her childhood growing up in the cold terrain of Detroit, her family raising her with strong morals and knowing Jesus had her back demonstrated that the world was hers to command.

That all changed with the fateful diagnosis of breast cancer at the tender age of 60, an event that led her to see life in a more meaningful way.

Her new autobiography, I Survived 60 Years to Get Cancer, Then Kill it, shows the journey that Cherry took to this life-changing moment: one that defined not just her purpose in life, but who she was in God’s eyes.

I always knew Christ had a purpose for me, I just didn’t know he had more than one, and I would need sixty years to prepare.  If it was not for cancer I probably would have taken these stories and a so-so existence to an early grave never fulling God’s plan for my life.

The wrong crowd definitely called Cherry at an early age, as she began to mix with older men, drugs, and the street life, gracing her with protection and love she recognized was with her all along, especially while battling and overcoming breast cancer.

In order for me to start the story of my old walk into my new one, I had to confess to things I have done in the past…to testify that God is real and will do what He said.  Jesus Christ saved my life; He plucked me from the grave so I might share this: Good News.

DID YOU KNOW? #18

Did you know, life is full of natural and spontaneous changes, so perhaps challenges are right up there with the best and worst of them?  I know I have had my fair share of trouble, and no matter the degree of difficulty I managed to survive; and so did you if you are reading this.  We have come through the storm.

Although challenges have their distinct disadvantages, they should be viewed as a test.  A test designed to show us how to respond to different situations.  (Trial and error.)  Fore instance: from once being on the top, a leader in your own right, to falling below personal, or peer acceptance; or visa verse.

My answer to the challenges is to never quit planning; you know they are coming.  (Savings accounts, petty cash, cookie jars, sheer determination, etc.)  Never give up on working on your goals; success is generally right around the corner when we do.  And did you know, just one more attempt may produce the success we were seeking?

We need more than one well thought out plan, to be successful?  There are steps to take, nothing just starts and end, somewhere in there is a middle, and your attitude will define your actions, perhaps, creating the story of how it came to be.  (A Testimony?)

“Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.”

I hate to tell you this but; “The biggest challenge after success is, shutting up about it.”  Criss Jami

But when you give to charity, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, (Vs. 4) So that your deeds of charity may be in secret; and your Father Who sees in secret will reward you openly.  Matthew 5:3-4

Moliere said,  “The greater the obstacle, the more glory there is in overcoming it.”  One of the most vital keys to overcoming difficulties is to accept these challenges.  Just like hard work strengthen the body, challenges and the degree of difficulty strengthen the mind.

Job 14:1 tells us something most should have already experienced, or at least have a clue about.  And that is: Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble.  So there is no doubt about it, if you are on this earth, you will be challenged.

“Did you know,” the habits of a vigorous mind are formed when contending with difficulties?

One of the most difficult times of my life was when I was diagnosed with 3rd stage Breast Cancer.  For the 1st time in my life, I was without a Plan B.  But, I had the courage to fight this disease, and my weapons consisted of How I was going to do it,  Why it had to be done, (besides staying alive) and the Will to Live.

I had experienced the abilities of Jesus Christ, before cancer, so I had begun to trust Him long before cancer tried to claim my life.  Read the details in, I Survived 60 Years to Get Cancer, Then Kill It.  So when the doctor said, “Your prognosis is not good,”  I let the Praises go up.  And not one single “Why Me,”  was allowed to escape my lips.  I Surrendered All!

I knew to use the How weapon, by choosing an unshakable faith in God.  The purpose and use of the Why weapon is because I believe God called me to be a Living Witness.  And I was not only obedient to His Will, I had a Will to Live.  (Purpose)  My mother was alive and she needed me.

I also believe Jesus Christ has a sense of humor.  He knew he could trust me to do His Will because I don’t desire some things anymore.  (Physical desires: private islands, etc.)   He knew I had the Faith to overcome the disease, and the Will to live through it.  More importantly, I was armed with the knowledge that Jesus Christ exists, and He is Lord.

FYI: I understood,  “You don’t develop courage by being happy in your relationships everyday.  You develop it by surviving difficult adversity.”  Epicurus

Did you know, not all challenges are life and death situation, some only require simple problem solving, some are no problem at all, just in need of some directions, and a little patience.  So with confidence, patience, persistence, and understanding; “Nothing is impossible.”

Thank you, Lord!  In Jesus name, we pray for strength and confidence.  Amen

HELLO WORLD!

I would like to say welcome to all that made it into the New Year, and a big “Thumbs up,” to those like me, who made it through the first week.  We must constantly remind ourselves to take it  “One day at a time.”  Looking ahead is a good thing, but not if we look past what’s going on right now.

Focusing too much on the past will definitely stunt our growth in the future.

I know for me there were times when I wondered if I would make it at all.  Of course I did, as you can see, if you’re reading this post.  But, I need your support for another year at: norvielcherry.com

If I could get readers to support my Website, by signing up to follow “Something to Think About!”   I will be able to continue on, successfully.  As we all know, in order to do that and be successful, I need you all to be a part of that transition.  I believe with your help, no obstacles are too large to overcome, and no obstacles are so small, they will be ignored.

I am not the one who want to say I care, and the only thing I have to offer is the same ole uninspired idea’s about what we should or should not do; That’s not my job.  My job is to tell you of the experiences I had to endure, just to stay alive, and how I managed to do that, with the Grace, Love and Mercy that came from Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

I ‘m human, and I desire the company of others humans, same as most others.  I need to know if you are out there, and reading some very difficult to tell on myself experiences.  I know I am not the only one with a story, there probably are some with similar experiences, and some may have knowledge of unimaginable events, and want to share…

This Website offers positive, intelligent, and inspirational information straight “From the Heart,”  with a passion, and willingness to offer quality opinions based on real life events to help us all have a better day.

So, I am asking that you sign on to norvielcherry.com or norvielcherry.wordpress.com to support this Kid-Friendly Website, and help to keep it clean, so we and our children can benefit from some of these trials and errors in a positive manner.

FYI: Your comments are important, we want to continue hearing what you have to say.  You can also e-mail me with your opinions at: norviep2@att.net  To contact me, the sign up button to join or e-mail me can be found on the right side of this page, about half way down, and at the bottom of every posted Blog.  You can like me too.

Thank you so much for the support I was given in the past, but this is a New Year and nothing stays the same.  We want to do more, and with your support I am inspired to do just that.

As a matter of fact, I am seeking to be as close to perfection, and honesty in what I confess in these essays as possible.  And you, the readers, allow me to tell my shame, while realizing I am exposing myself for the greater good, and out of the kindness of your hearts, accept these Testimonies without nailing me to the cross.  (Judging)

I learned the hard way that I cannot erase my past, but I can open my heart and tell you the mistakes I made, so you can avoid some of the same.  I learned the hard way how my stories would end, and now that time has healed some old wounds, I am able to share, and be trusted with the truth.

I only want to write inspiring stories, and have someone who want to read them.  All to the Glory of God.

Let everything that hath breath Praise the Lord, Praise ye the Lord.  Psalms 150:6

Thank you Lord, for giving me the courage to lay my life out for all to see in hopes they will not follow in my footsteps when I was not doing “Your Will.”   In Jesus name pray.  Amen!

DID YOU KNOW? #17

Did you know our attitude count?  A bad attitude is like a flat tire, if you don’t change it, you’ll never go anywhere.

The majority of us think it’s the physical things that make us happy.  Did you ever take into consideration that it is also a mental state of mind?  What really makes us happy is how we feel about ourselves, and what we do with that?  At least 90-95% of life is determined by our attitude, the rest of it is acceptance of the fact.

Did you know, if we didn’t have the joy of others, what in the world is that shiny new car supposes to do for us, besides add another bill?  To get the full value of joy, it must be shared with somebody, so the true presence of God can be experienced with shared happiness.

And did you know, that in order to be truly happy, we must live in the truth of who we are and who we want to be?  Look for courage and determination to really define you. (Clarity)

Sometimes when we dream and are dreams do not come to pass, we can become discouraged.  That is the exact moment we should push forward, adopting an attitude to never give up, by turning that dream into a reality, no matter how long it takes.

Have you ever noticed when we give up, that’s when things start to happen for us, but we are as some would put it: “A day late and a dollar short.”  I say we gave in and let the Devil have his way, instead of having the patience to wait on God.

Sometimes our desires come to us in dreams, but most dreams are not feasible at the time we dream them.  So move on to what’s important right now; try to accomplish what is vital to the times.

Clearing the path to work on our staying optimistic.  Dreams have the ability to come true, all we have to know is they will happen in their own time.

Did you know, to be optimistic is to have a winning attitude, perseverance is the pace-setter, and faith will forge the results?  And did you know, the way to success is hard work, dedication, and determination?  A clear directive to find positive possibilities.

If we want to keep our dreams alive, especially the ones that are unimaginably fantastic, we must understand that they require faith, hard work, a belief in one’s own self, and the blessings only God Almighty can provide.

If your desires don’t come from God, you may be living in a nightmare.  “It’s Something to Think About.”

We need a vision, and the resolve to pursue our wants using self-discipline, a willingness to bring others along, and favor from Jesus Christ.  We must be motivated; one of the keys to success.

Did you know, sometimes we can overdo our desires, (lust-fulness) and that is what causes our downfall, coupled with dishonesty, lies, theft, etc…Failure is not an option; let drive and sheer determination bring us closer to our dreams.

Did you know, when we gather up all our courage, we must also be prepared to sacrifice, and commit, by using our talents to champion our causes, while we are making sure our goals are clear?  And did you know, we can go about our business with unselfishness, patience, focus, determination and faith, with a commitment to Jesus Christ?

As we pursue our happiness and our peers wish us good luck, remember; The only good luck many great men ever had was being born with the ability and determination to overcome bad luck.  Channing Pollock

Did you know, in order to help push our dreams along we must remain optimistic because; “Optimism is the madness of insisting that all is well when we are miserable.”  Voltaire

And did you know by continuing on without being a pessimist, is a step closer to dreams fulfilled?  There is no question about where I am going with this, it’s as simple as; Pessimism leads to weakness, optimism to power.  William James

FYI: When faced with an attitude, remember, your decision will determine if it has the power to repair a situation, or cause more damage, and you’ll know if you made the right decision when other people, tell other people you did.

P. S.: Thanks for keeping us Child-Friendly…”By the way, where are those kids, anyway?”

Thank you Lord for all your wisdom and faith in us to use it wisely.  In Jesus name we pray.  Amen
