If you are on a crooked road and find one that is on the straight and narrow, it’s best to change paths. The sooner we redirect our path the better, plus it will save unnecessary steps. We should have learned in school the “shortest distance between two points is a straight line.”
Then again, considering some positive circumstances, we may want to “Pursue some path, however narrow and crooked, in which you can walk in love and reverence.” Henry David Thoreau
